Last month, garlic has been under the spotlight. Throughout the month, my inbox has been flooded with yummy garlicky morsels. I adore garlic and was really glad that so many of you do too . Thank you once again for your lovely entries.
Before I bring you the round up, let me present to you the star spice for the month of February….and yes, it is a star indeed….for, it is none other than the pretty star anise.
So during this month, whenever your mind tilts towards spice, reach out for some star anise!
- Star anise, star aniseed, badiane or Chinese star anise, is a spice that closely resembles anise in flavor, obtained from the star-shaped pericarp of Illicium verum, a small native evergreen tree of southwest China.
- Star anise is shaped like an eight-pointed star and contains shiny seeds with an aniseed flavour ( a powerful and liquorice-like aroma), which comes from the essential oil, anethole.
- It’s best to buy whole stars which can not only be added directly to the cooking pot either whole or in segments but can also be ground. Stored whole it keeps for well over a year in an air tight container.
My association with this spice is quite limited…hence, I too am looking forward to what you all come up with this spice. So, come on…let’s get down to the thinking business and while we’re so engaged, let’s just remember,Think spice…think star anise. Please refer here for the rules for participation.
Now, without more ado, here’s the roundup of all your wonderful entries…thank you again for participating.
As usual, I hope I have included all the entries…however if you notice anything amiss, please do not hesitate to drop me a mail and I will try to correct the error as soon as possible..
