The Blogger Aid Cookbook- a cookbook to make a difference!
Nov 18th, 2009 | By Sunita | Category: Latest post, musingsYes! It is finally here. The moment we’ve all been waiting for. The Blogger Aid Cookbook has been published and is for sale. Blogger what? Well, it was towards the beginning of the year that Val of More Than Burnt Toast & Giz of Equal Opportunity Kitchen, both wonderful and passionate food bloggers in their own right came up with the brilliant idea of a cook book. And not just any cook book, but one in which the recipes will be contributed by food bloggers. The members of BloggerAid-Changing the Face of Famine have published a cookbook where 100% of the proceeds target children and education through the World Food Program called School Meals.

WFP’s school meal programmes work towards achieving several Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The programmes directly address the goals of reducing hunger by half and achieving universal primary education
School meals contribute over the long term to combating poverty but it also helps to reduce disease. It provides a platform for directly addressing child health and nutrition, for example through deworming schemes. It can also be a platform for other health interventions. As well as providing vital nourishment, school meals act as a safety net for poor families and also help keep children in school.
“We are a growing group of international food bloggers determined to make a difference in aid of world famine. The love of food and community that brings us together drives the compassion of its members to reach out to our world to help those less fortunate than we are. Banded by a mission of helping to make a change in a world where starvation affects such a profound number of people, we will raise money and awareness for the hungry in communities both at home and abroad.”
The vision of these two fantastic bloggers and their call to fellow bloggers were responded with great enthusiasm. Who says that the internet is a bad thing? Very soon, people who have never met each other started to work side by side to make this vision a reality. After months of selfless hard work, the cook book is now a tangible thing; the vision, now a reality. The book is filled with original recipes frrom all over the world and with mouth watering pictures too.
This hot and sweet baked chicken recipe is my humble contribution to the cook book. This recipe can be found in the cook book along side the over hundred other recipes, contributed from all over the world.

In those wonderful ladies words, “We are not professional publishers, but rather food bloggers who share a strong sense of responsibility to our fellow man/woman. There has been a lot to learn, plenty of glitches and endless hours spent ultimately not only sharing our cultural heritage but also bringing our world just a little closer together. The diversity of it all is nothing short of magical.”
You too can help in this endeavour by buying the book and spreading the word about it. There is so much of poverty in the world; and I agree, that we cannot resolve every problem. But if we can help even one child get a proper meal, it is a tiny step forward towards our underprivileged fellow beings’ welfare. And who knows, those tiny steps will become giant leaps one day. So please help in this endeavour and promote the book in any way you can. And I emphasise once again that 100% of the proceeds from this book will go towards the World Food Program (the United Nations frontline agency) called School Meals.
You can buy the Blogger aid Changing the face of famine cookbook from the Create Space estore. The estore is a connection of Amazon. You won’t find the book on the Amazon.com site as the royalties for the School Meals Programme are much higher through the estore. Maybe you could put this in your Christmas wish list this year or gift it to your near and dear ones. Imagine how happy that will make you- not only do you get original recipes to learn from a variety of ‘real ‘ cooks, but also the warmth and satisfaction that you will feel in your heart with the knowledge of having helped a deprived child.
Aren’t those smiles precious? Let us try to keep them; help us to help them!
You can buy the Blogger Aid Cookbook here.

Nice thing Suni! Your 4th picture moved me a lot (where a child is picking food from the floor). God alone knows how many times I’ve had too much food where I was hardly able to move becos of my tummy being so full, I don’t know how many times I’ve wasted good food in the name of party. I really feel guilty. How many times I’ve Complaint about what I don’t have rather than thanking god for what I have. These children don’t even have basic things when I’ve more than enough to survive. I’ll try and avoid wasting and eating too much up in future. I’ll really help spread the word.
