BBC Good Food Show London’09

Nov 22nd, 2009 | By Sunita | Category: BBC Good Food Show, Latest post

Last Saturday, I attended the  BBC Good Food Show in London. Some of you may remember the last BBC Good Food Show that I attended in June (Birmingham) of this year. Then, I was sponsored by Miele, and it was them this time round too. I was ushered in by Cherry from Forever better (Miele’s PR) and was soon joined in the fun by Davina from Sugarbar.org and Anne from Anne’s kitchen. I had met the latter in the Birmingham show and the three of us got along very well.

The show in London was supposed to be different in that the Masterchef was going live; the famous ‘invention test’, a part of te acclaimed BBC program, in which contestants had to cook a plate of food from a mystery bag of ingredients in thirty minutes , was  the highlight of the show. John Torrode and Greg Wallace, the hosts and judges of the show, were going to be judging the live invention test as well. There were also Masterclasses on sushi, canape and cupcakes.

Apart from the above highlight and the numerous food and drink stalls that adorned the Olympia grand hall, there was also a restaurant experience. The ultimate celebration of gourmet food, the Restaurant Experience brings together a selection of London’s top restaurants, giving you the opportunity to sample signature dishes from the capital’s leading lights. With such an array of tantalising menus from an assortment of exciting culinary traditions, one is literally spoilt for choice. This year there were names like Masterchef restaurant, Roast to go, Café spice Namaste, Blue elephant, Launceston Place, Skylon, Boxwood cafe, Urban caprice- including Daphne’s, The Ivy and La Caprice; Theo Randal at The Intercontinental, Min Jiang.

The three of us had the Cape Sante – Panfried Scallops with Pancetta, Red Chili, Rocket & Lentils (Theo randall)

The Masterchef Restaurant: Mat Follas’s Lavender Mousse with Hokey Pokey and Berry Sauce

The Masterchef Restaurant: James Nathan’s Chocolate & Orange Sponge Pudding

We also got special seats to watch one of the invention tests (The participants did really well in dishing up some great food with surprise ingredients and  in just 30 minutes. Steve Groves and Matt Follas were judging the participants to pick the final three.

In comparison, I found this show easier to peruse the stalls without being carried along in the flow of humanity. It was, no doubt, crowded, but not that it left one gasping for air. And yes, here too, there was a variety of stalls displaying tempting wares. There were still plenty of stalls  left to explore, but my time was limited as I had to leave early. But even theere were plenty of stalls and food samplings that I could attend to. The desserts were a delight; I probably put on quite a few calories with all that gorging!

The fudge in the above picture were absolutely scrumptious (Yum Yum Tree Fudge).

We were also shown around the latest Miele gadgets.

Aftr that, I headed home; Davina and Anne hung around for a while after that. In fact, cherry had offered me a place to take part in the invention test, but I had to leave early, so declioned it.

But, all in all, it was a “good” day- good food and good company!
