Cauliflower and broccoli sabji…

by Sunita on March 26, 2007

This is a very simple and easy to make sabji- for those days when you do not feel like slaving too much. It looked good, tasted good, healthy, needing very less oil- well, what else does one want.

What’s needed-

1/4 of a medium sized cauliflower, cut into florrets
1/4 of a medium sized broccoli, cut into florets
1 potato, diced
1 onion, sliced
2 cloves of garlic, crushed
1 tomato chopped
1 bay leaf
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 whole red chilli
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
salt to taste

How to-

Boil the cauliflower, broccoli and potato in very little water.

Heat 1 tblsp of oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds, whole red chilli and bay leaf. When they splutter, add the onions and cook till they are translucent. Add the tomatoes, garlic, turmeric and cumin powders and cook till the tomato is mushy.

Strain the boiled vegetables and add to the pan. Mix well and add the water in which they were boiled to make the gravy. Bring to a boil. Add the garam masala and remove from heat.

Serve hot with rice or rotis!!

I don’t have broccoli but I am definitely going to try this recipe. I bought a nice big cauliflower on Saturday. Thanks Sunita.

And of course you’re right – healthy and a really quick cook.

Trupti, thanks do give it a try…it was a nice mild dish…and quick as well.

Sharmi, this is the first time I’ve actually combined them and it came out quite well, if I may dare say so.
